{"id":367,"date":"2014-07-20T10:20:35","date_gmt":"2014-07-20T04:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/promincproductions.com\/blog\/?p=367"},"modified":"2014-07-20T10:20:35","modified_gmt":"2014-07-20T04:20:35","slug":"corn-tortillas-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/promincproductions.com\/blog\/corn-tortillas-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Corn Tortillas Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can&#8217;t own a <a title=\"Making a Tortilla Press\" href=\"https:\/\/promincproductions.com\/blog\/making-tortilla-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-id=\"203\" rel=\"noopener\">home made tortilla press<\/a> and not use it for something, right? \u00a0So first order of business &#8211; make tortillas! \u00a0(crazy, I know!)<\/p>\n<p>I looked into recipes for flour tortillas &#8211; that&#8217;s what I&#8217;m used to buying at the grocery store. \u00a0First recipe, first ingredient\u00a0&#8211; lard. \u00a0So I check a second recipe &#8211; same thing. \u00a0Ok, so there has to be a recipe without lard, right? \u00a0There is &#8211; it uses butter. \u00a0Now I&#8217;m not going to tell others that an ancient recipe like the tortilla is made wrong, but I&#8217;ve never once in my life purchased lard, and do my best to avoid butter whenever possible. \u00a0So, now what? \u00a0Well I was persistent, did some more searching, and found a better option &#8211; corn tortillas. \u00a0These are a much simpler recipe that is healthier &#8211; Masa Harina, water, and a touch of salt. \u00a0That&#8217;s it! \u00a0Plus they cook up in minutes. \u00a0Ok, here we go!<\/p>\n<p>Wait &#8211; what&#8217;s Masa Harina? \u00a0And where do I find it? \u00a0Well to start with the easy part, I&#8217;ll answer the later. \u00a0I found it at the grocery store. \u00a0But what is it? \u00a0Well put simply, it\u00a0is corn flour. \u00a0Field corn hulls are soaked in water and lime, the hulls are removed, and then it is dried and ground up. \u00a0This is a traditional ingredient for many tortillas and such.<\/p>\n<h2>Corn Tortillas<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups Masa Harina<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/4 cup water<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mix the three ingredients together. \u00a0I prefer just using my hands. \u00a0Mix until you have a nicely formed dough and it&#8217;s all joined together.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_343\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-343\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/promincproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_2077.jpg\" data-lasso-id=\"204\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Mjll9TiI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-343\" src=\"https:\/\/promincproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_2077-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"Mix the Masa Harina in a large bowl until you have a nicely formed dough ball.
