When I shoot, I use two microphones – the onboard camera mic as a reference and backup, and a mono lav (or shotgun) mic on my talent for the clean audio. \u00a0When I get into my editor, and I’m nearing completion of the edit process though, I then need to delete the onboard camera microphone and create a stereo track out of the clean lav mic. \u00a0This can be accomplished rather quickly using Audacity.<\/p>\n

Use\u00a0Audacity to Create a Stereo Track of One Track From A Stereo Track<\/h2>\n

  1. Open your mono audio file by using\u00a0File -> Open<\/strong>\u00a0and choosing the audio file.<\/li>\n
  2. Open the sub-menu for the audio track, and choose\u00a0Split Stereo to Mono<\/strong>.

  3. Click the\u00a0X<\/strong> in the top left of the audio track you wish to discard.<\/li>\n
  4. Choose\u00a0Tracks -> Add New -> Stereo Track<\/strong> to create a new empty stereo track.<\/li>\n
  5. On the\u00a0mono track, click the left hand panel (not the waveform)\u00a0to highlight the entire track.<\/li>\n
  6. Choose\u00a0Edit -> Copy<\/strong> or use the keyboard shortcut\u00a0Ctrl + C<\/strong> to copy the mono track.<\/li>\n
  7. On the empty stereo track, click the left hand panel to select it.<\/li>\n
  8. Choose\u00a0Edit -> Paste<\/strong> or use the keyboard shortcut\u00a0Ctrl + V<\/strong> to paste the mono track into the stereo track as a stereo track.<\/li>\n
  9. Click the\u00a0X<\/strong>\u00a0in the top left of the mono audio track to remove it and you are now ready to further edit or export the stereo track.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
