Christmas Tree Vegetable Tray

Holiday meal time should be fun and decorative so as to match the holiday you are celebrating.  So for Christmas this year, I’m celebrating with a christmas tree vegetable tray!

Rather than just stacking all of the vegetables next to each other, I decided to shape them into an iconic holiday image – a Christmas tree!

This really doesn’t take long to put together at all – it’s not all that different from doing a standard vegetable tray.  The hardest part is figuring out what vegetables, how much of each, and how to lay it out.  But using these instructions takes that part out of the cooking process, so you’re dish will soon be the hit of the party with no extra effort!  Enjoy and happy holiday!

If you are bringing a vegetable tray to a christmas/holiday event it should really match the purpose of the event. For that reason making a christmas tree vegetable platter seems like the only thing to do!

Instructions
  1. On a large serving platter (holiday themed if possible), stack carrot sticks down the middle lengthwise, starting and ending about 1/4 of the way into the tray.
  2. Layer the broccoli on top of the tree trunk in a triangle shape, leaving about 1/3 of the carrot sticks out as the tree trunk.
  3. Place the cauliflower chunks across the bottom of the tray to create a snow covered ground. Break of tiny chunks of cauliflower and sprinkle along side the tree to simulate falling snow.
  4. Cut the top off of the yellow pepper. Cut a flat panel out of the side.
  5. Cut a star out of the flat panel of the yellow pepper. Cut long strips out of the remainder of the yellow pepper - cutting from the opening where the flat panel was cut out. These will be long "strings" that will span over and around the tree to be a string of lights.
  6. Place cherry tomatoes through out the tree to simulate lights or decoration. Wrap the string of yellow peppers around the broccoli tree. Lastly, place the star at the top of the tree.
  7. Serve and enjoy! Pair with a vegetable dip on the side if you'd like.
Recipe Notes
  • Depending on the size of your gathering you may want to cut or prepare some additional vegetables to either re-stock the platter as it gets eaten off or have along side for people to grab as well.
