My wife has several food allergies, and thus for Valentines buying the standard box of chocolates isn’t an option. So this year I decided to make her some chocolate strawberry hearts as a sweet treat and to show my love. These chocolate strawberry heart candies are quite simple to make, but will be a perfect treat to show some love to your valentine!
You need to refrigerate these with the cookie cutter in place, so you’ll need several cookie cutters. This is good as it allows you to make several shapes and candies at once, so you have some variety.
Ingredients and Supplies Used
Here are the ingredients I used. These are very allergen friendly foods and should work for most dietary concerns.
- Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips
- Good & Gather Freeze Dried Strawberry Slices
- If You Care Parchment Paper
- Variety pack of Cookie Cutters
Allergan Friendly Candy Sources
If you’d prefer to buy candy, these are some great vendors that my wife enjoys from time to time. But the cost per item and at times shipping can add up a fair bit, so look for deals and plan you purchases accordingly.
No Whey Chocolate
No Whey Chocolate provides some amazing replacements of the popular candy choices that are allergen friendly. This is often my go-to source for gifts, stocking stuffers, treats, etc. for my wife.
Enjoy Life Foods
We often gets cookies and snacks from Enjoy Life Foods, but they are our primary source for chocolate chips. You’ll often find their products in grocery stores as well.
- Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Run it for 30 seconds at a time, then stir, and run again if needed. Once they are 1/2 melted, just stir them and they will continue to melt. This way you won't overcook them.
- Place the cookie cutters onto a cookie sheet lined with a sheet of parchment paper
- Spoon melted chocolate into each cookie cutter. Use a spoon or small butter knife to ensure it gets pushed to the edges. Be sure to hold the cookie cutter down while doing this so it doesn't shift.
- Place a freeze dried strawberry into the melted chocolate.
- Place in the refrigerator or freezer for about 2 hours until the chocolate is hardened.
- Carefully push the chocolates out of the cookie cutters with a butter-knife, pushing at the edges gently.
